“Reporting is not about auditing and compliance. It’s about transforming businesses and the economy.”

Pedro Faria

EFRAG

The three barriers reporting teams hit

01

Every framework asks for the same data in a different shape

CSRD, VSME, SBTi, and EUDR each carry their own definitions, boundaries, and disclosure formats. Meeting them one by one means reworking the same figures for every filing, and that costs weeks a lean team does not have.

02

The evidence sits scattered across hundreds of data points

A footprint is built from invoices, meter readings, supplier files, and factor databases. When the origin of each figure goes unrecorded, assurance turns into reconstruction work, and every open question chips away at the authority of your statements.

03

The whole process depends on a handful of heads

Boundary decisions and factor choices live in undocumented spreadsheets and in the memory of the two people who made them. When one of them leaves, the methodology and the audit trail are lost with them.

Frameworks

One footprint mapped to every framework

Spirefly keeps one measured footprint and maps it to each standard's own schema, so a definition that shifts between frameworks stops costing you a rework cycle.

For CSRD and VSME, Spirefly covers the environmental topics (ESRS E1 climate through E5 resource use, and the equivalent VSME sections): quantitative fields prefill from your footprint and the qualitative sections come back as a draft.

Framework coverage

  • CSRDEnvironmental topics: ESRS E1 climate, E2 pollution, E3 water, E4 biodiversity, E5 resource useSupported
  • VSMEEnvironmental topics: The VSME sections equivalent to ESRS E1 to E5Supported
  • SBTiTarget disclosure: Methodology documentation and progress against your baselineSupported
  • SBTNTarget disclosure: Methodology documentation and progress against your baselineSupported
  • EUDRTraceability: Country of origin records for regulated commoditiesPartial

More frameworks are in development and will join this list once they are ready to support.

Assurance

The audit trail is built automatically

Every calculation run in Spirefly is recorded automatically at the moment it happens: the model version, the emission factor databases active, and the configuration that produced the result. Every human action, from an approval to an override to a reclassification, is appended to the same provenance log with the reviewer and the time.

From that trail Spirefly assembles the assurance package, with the evidence layers organized and described in the format an assurance provider expects. The trail accumulates as you work, so the evidence is compiled by the time you need it.

A reproducible process

A reporting process that survives a handover

Every figure in a Spirefly footprint is deterministic: a quantity multiplied by an emission or impact factor, with the factor source, scope classification, GHG category, and data type recorded on the row. The methodology lives in the platform, next to the data it describes, and stays there when people move on.

That turns reporting into a process anyone on your team can rerun.

Your data, your control

Take your data out as easily as you put it in

Re-import and pick up where you left off

Bring a footprint CSV back into Spirefly and you land at the calculation step, with the same figures and the same methodology behind them.

Every export carries its full audit trail

Factor sources, scope tags, estimate flags, and the provenance log travel with the file, so a figure stays defensible once it leaves the platform.

You keep the right to edit and take your data out

The right to correct and export your data sits with you. Take out a per-dataset footprint as CSV, a company-level GHG inventory, or VSME disclosure tables as XLSX, at any point in the process and with every underlying row.

Frequently asked questions

What is sustainability reporting software?

Sustainability reporting software turns a company's measured environmental data into the disclosures a regulator, a financing partner, or a customer asks for. Spirefly is sustainability reporting software built on your own footprint: the quantitative fields of each framework's disclosure schema fill from your data, and the qualitative sections are drafted from how those figures were actually calculated. The full methodology and audit trail stay behind every number, so what you submit can be defended line by line.

Is Spirefly ESG reporting software?

Spirefly covers the environmental part of ESG. That means the ESRS environmental topics under CSRD (E1 climate, E2 pollution, E3 water, E4 biodiversity, E5 resource use) and the equivalent VSME sections, plus SBTi, SBTN, and EUDR. The social and governance topics are outside what Spirefly measures. Where another team or tool owns those chapters, Spirefly hands over structured, documented environmental inputs they can drop straight in.

Does Spirefly support CSRD and VSME reporting?

Yes, for the environmental topics. Spirefly maps your footprint to the CSRD and VSME disclosure schema, prefills the quantitative fields for ESRS E1 through E5 and the equivalent VSME sections, and drafts the methodology descriptions from your actual calculation logic. Spirefly is the measurement and drafting layer aligned to those standards, so your team, your auditor, and your assurance provider still make the final call on what is filed.

We have a consultant writing our CSRD report. What changes?

With Spirefly, your consultant starts from structured footprint data with full methodology documentation and a first draft of each disclosure section. Their hours go to interpretation, stakeholder communication, and the sections that genuinely need expert judgement, which is what you are paying them for. The data compilation and the methodology write-ups are already done when they arrive.

Finance owns our CSRD process. How does the handoff work?

Spirefly produces the sustainability content and finance receives it as structured, documented input: footprint figures carrying their scope and methodology documentation, prefilled disclosure tables, and qualitative drafts. The assurance package is produced in Spirefly too, so it is handed over together with the disclosure and finance can trace any figure back to its source without asking you to explain a spreadsheet.

How do we know the AI's methodology description is accurate?

The draft is generated from your actual calculation: the emission factors used, the scope categories applied, and the estimate flags on rows where primary data was unavailable. It describes what your assessment did. You review it before it goes anywhere, and where your company has a specific boundary decision or allocation method to explain, you add it. Every AI-proposed block in Spirefly is yours to accept, modify, or rewrite.

Can our auditor see the calculation behind every figure?

Yes. Every figure in a Spirefly disclosure traces to the footprint calculation behind it: the activity data, the emission factor and its database, and the scope classification. The provenance log records every human action with the reviewer and the time. Assurance providers can work in the platform directly, so the chain from a disclosure figure back to the raw input stays navigable at every step.

CSRD does not apply to us for another year. Is it worth starting now?

Yes, because your first CSRD report needs a comparative baseline, and that measurement has to exist before the report is written. Building the baseline in Spirefly a year early also means your methodology is tested and validated while the stakes are low, so the first mandatory cycle runs on a process your team has already used once.

We are in scope for EUDR. What does Spirefly cover?

Spirefly's EUDR support is partial today and covers supply chain data mapping plus country of origin documentation for commodities in scope. Where full geolocation is available for your tier-1 suppliers, Spirefly produces the required documentation. Where it is not, Spirefly structures the risk assessment approach and flags which supplier relationships need closer traceability work before you can file.
